Play the Puck FUNdamentals

Friday February 13th, 1:10pm - 2:10pm, Cottage Grove Ice Arena

Playing the puck as a goalie is a true game changer. Too often, a dumped puck rims around the boards while the goalie stays in the crease, leading to a battle in the corner between a defenseman and an attacking forward. When a goalie confidently stops that dump behind the net, everything changes — the defense can make a clean breakout pass and the team exits the zone with control.

This clinic is designed to teach goalies how to become active, reliable puck-handlers. We break down positioning, reads, communication, and decision-making so goalies know not just how to play the puck, but when to make the right play.

Goalies will practice:

• Stopping dumps behind the net

• Moving pucks efficiently to safe corners

• Making controlled breakout passes

• Playing pucks from the dots and hash marks

• Winning races and chipping pucks out under pressure

The biggest advantage of learning to play the puck well is separation. Doing something confidently that other goalies avoid can set you apart, especially at tryouts and higher levels of play.
